Cruiser axes are smaller double bit axes. Typically with a head weight between 2 and 2-3/4lbs, and a 28in haft. These smaller axes get their name from timber cruisers, logging professionals who surveyed and marked plots of timber, estimating its value. These axes gave timber cruisers the same advantage of less frequent sharpening as a full size double bit, in a smaller, lighter package.
These same attributes make cruiser axes ideal for the modern user who enjoys the feel and balance of a double bit, but wants something more portable.
